The issue was widely reported in the media and it virtually turned out to be a social media fodder, with people casting aspersions on the religious figure for getting too friendly with the self-proclaimed actor during a video and pictures that went viral.

The ministry has also issued a notification regarding Mufti Qawi’s suspension. Sources informed that the ministry was investigating the matter.

The video of Mufti and the model went so viral that it was also echoed in Senate Standing Committee on Religious Affairs meeting.

During the meeting, Senator Hafiz Hamdullah, who himself was a cynosure for trying to assault a social activist on live TV program the other day,  said Qandeel Baloch should be part of the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee.  “If we can have Mufti Qavi in the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, I think we can have Qandeel Baloch in this team too.”
