Ever since the AIB roast took the Indian film industry by storm, Bollywood superstars Ranveer Singh, Arjun Kapoor and Karan Johar cannot take a break. The infamous roast, which became notorious for its use of bad language and obscene humour, was criticized among some quarters in Bollywood as well. Aamir Khan had stated that he disliked the humour in the roast and was swiftly responded to by Russell Peters, who called Aamir a hypocrite and told him to shut up.
The trip of Karan Johar, Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor will be summoned to record their statements and give their version to the police.
“We want to wind up investigations and therefore their statements will be recorded as per procedure,” said Joint Commissioner of Police ( Law and Order) Deven Bharti.
That is not all, though. Bollywood actresses Deepika Padukone and Alia Bhatt will also have to record their statements, since they were the butt of the jokes. Deepika and Alia both have spoken out in favour of the AIB roast when it was the subject of much discussion in the media. Actress Sonakshi Sinha, who was also among the attendees (and not spared as well) had tweeted in support of the roast.
The event was held at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Stadium inside the National Sports Council of India (NSCI) in Worli on December 20, 2013. AIB had deleted the video from their YouTube account on February 3 2015 after criticism and controversies were doing the rounds on social media.
Zonal Deputy Commissioner of Police S Jayakumar said, “There are certain questions we need to ask those named in the FIR and therefore their statements will be recorded as per procedure. They will be summoned for the same.”
A roast is an event in which the host (roastmaster) invites a panel of people (the roasters) to make fun of an individual of in the case of the AIB roast, more than one individual, who are referred to as the roastees. All jokes are taken in good nature and sometimes, limits are crossed.
Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh’s alleged affair was targeted, Sonakshi Sinha’s obesity and Alia Bhatt’s lack of general knowledge, were also made part of the notorious jokes during AIB’s roast. Sonakshi, Deepika and Alia were present in the crowd at the time the event was taking place.
