The crimes against women are reported in Pakistan in large number every year. The women are tortured and killed in the name of social norms and traditions for ‘honour’ and the culprits mostly avoid punishment of the crime due to their power and influence.
A woman, believed to be around 16 to 18 years old, was drugged, strangled and her body burnt in a Suzuki van on the orders of the Makol village jirga (council) in Abbottabad on April 29 — in the name of the so-called honour.
Police had arrested 13 members of the jirga who ordered the murder of the girl. The victim’s mother was also arrested, because she supported the jirga decision, a police officer said,.
