The Ministry of Interior had announced to take strict measures after the killing of Taliban supremo Mullah Mansoor Akhtar, who at the time of attack carried an identity card under the name of Wali Muhammad.

The ministry has devised a system for re-verification of CNICs and appointed Nadra Balochistan chief, Maj Gen (R) Ajmal Khan Durrani as head of the re-verification department.

So far, 16 DGs of Nadra have been removed upon orders of the Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan and only 10 DGs will now be working. The Ministry of Interior has also issued a notification in this regard.

On the other hand, Nadra made a considerable cut in the fee for Smart Cards. A spokesperson for the Ministry of Interior said that the regulatory authority will now receive only Rs400 instead of Rs1500 for the issuance of these cards to citizens.

The fees for urgent and executive Smart Cards will be Rs800 and Rs1600 respectively.
