PM Nawaz denies his role in calling Army for mediation

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has said that he never requested Pakistan Army to become a mediator in the ongoing political turmoil in the country, ARY News reports.

Nawaz Sharif, while addressing a session of National Assembly on Friday, said that the house will  jointly struggle for the supremacy of the constitution.

He claimed that Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders Dr. Tahir-ul-Qadri and Imran Khan had requested to make Pakistan Army as mediator in the ongoing political crisis.

“I can sacrifice 10 regimes for the sake of democracy but cannot take a U-turn on democracy”, he added.

Nawaz Sharif further said that everyone knows how truthful the protesters are.

Heaping praise on Opposition Leader Khursheed Shah, the prime minister said Shah translated his sentiments in his speech.

“We have struggled for democracy alongwith former PM Benazir Bhutto”, Sharif said.

Speaker Ayaz Sadiq adjourned the session till Monday.
