Pakistan took the lead as Muhammad Arslan Qadir scored in the eighth minute but New Zealand’s leveled the scoreline as Stephen Jenness pulled a goal back in the 11th minute.

The Black Sticks made it 2-1 as Simon Child scored the goal in 19th minute. Pakistan then made it 2-2 thanks to a goal by Muhammad Irfan Jr. in the 23rd minute.

Nic Woods scored twice for the defending champions in the 39th and 42nd minute of the game while Kane Russell made it 5-2 in the 44th minute.

Qadir scored his second and last goal of the match in the 52nd minute to end it 5-3.

Pakistan will play their third game of the tournament against Australia on Sunday.
