No extension in deadline for SIMs verification: PTA

ISLAMABAD: Chairman of Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) Ismael Shah said on Friday that no extension will be made in the deadline for biometric verification of SIMs, ARY News reported.

In the latest reminder, Chairman PTA warned that all unverified SIMs will be blocked by April 12. He informed that approximately 1.5 crore unverified SIMs have been blocked till date.

About jamming of Afghan SIMs signals, Shah said PTA has raised the issue with Pakistan government, Army and Afghan government as PTA doesn’t have any technology to block signals of Afghan SIMs.

It should be remembered that the second phase of biometric verification of SIMs is in progress and it will end on April 12.

Prior to that, during the three-week long first phase of SIMs verification around 60 millions SIMs were verified.

Government in collaboration with the telecom operators had launched SIMs biometric verification on January 13 as a step to curb terrorism in the country.
