ODI defeat: ‘Disappointed’ Waqar offers to step down as head coach

WELLINGTON: Pakistan team head coach Waqar Younis has offered the Pakistan Cricket Board to step down after the team’s dismal performance in the first ODI and preceding T20 series, ARY News reported.

In a latest statement with a specific reference to team’s debacle in the first ODI, Younis said players must tell if they were unhappy with him, “I will step down”.

Waqar spoke about his resignation during a team meeting in New Zealand.

New Zealand won the first ODI in Wellington on Monday by 70 runs with the third and final match set for Auckland on Sunday.

Rain washed out the second one-day international between New Zealand and Pakistan in Napier on Thursday.

The latest statement from the head coach indicates something is not ‘well’ in the team.

Meanwhile, team manager Intikhab Alam says ‘an individual’ has leaked confidential information of team meeting to the media. “We are looking for the person who spread the news in the media,” he added.
