Operations do have 'collateral damages': Haideri

LAHORE: Deputy Chairman of the Senate, Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri Sunday said that if a political party has reservations on Karachi Operation, then it should consult the courts, ARY News reported.

Laying the foundation stone of a seminary here, Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri said, “Karachi is the economic hub of the country and the enemy tends to cut this jugular vein of ours.”

“Karachi Operation was backed by all the political forces, while operations do have collateral damages,” he said. “Though, there are some negative effects of the operation too, but a peaceful Karachi is utmost necessary.”

He also affirmed that the operation has restored peace in Karachi up to a considerable extent.

The deputy chairman of Senate appealed that current circumstances demand unity and everyone should play a positive role in eradicating terrorism from here.

He said that his party – Jamiat Ulema Islam-Fazl – had opposed the deliberate association of religion and seminaries with terrorism under the 21st Amendment.

Haideri clearly stated that under his presence no action can be taken against madaris, nor will he let anyone amend the blasphemy law.
