Sindh Minister for Transport Mumtaz Jakhrani, during his speech, referred a female legislator as ‘maasi’ (maid), which caused uproar among the opposition members. The minister, however, didn’t name anyone. But reports suggest the remarks were targeted at a lawmaker associated with the PML-N. It is mentioned here that the word ‘maasi’ in Sindhi also used for the sister of mother or maternal aunt.
The opposition benches demanded the minister to tender apology.
Moments later, Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani expunged the remarks from assembly records.
Asif had dubbed PTI senior leader Shireen Mazari ‘Tractor Trolley’, leading to prompt counter attack from the PTI parliamentarians.
The issue erupted when Asif was speaking in the House, claiming that country was facing no loadshedding during Sehr and iftar hours that drew ire of the opposition who reacted to the minister’s statement sharply, calling it wrong.
