Orangi Town Attack: Seven suspects detained

KARACHI: Police has detained seven suspects for questioning in murder of seven policemen in a terrorist attack in Karachi’s Orangi Town on Wednesday.

According to police, seven suspects including a woman have been detained during raids in Shirin Jinnah Colony, Neelum Colony, Defence and other parts of the city.

DIG Police West Feroz Shah visited the crime scene today. Talking to mediapersons the DIG West said that some suspects who were planning for the attack have been arrested. He said that the perpetrators of the crime have been identified adding that all cues indicate towards an outlawed terrorist group.

The FIR of the killing of seven policemen has been registered at Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Garden Headquarters against unknown attackers. Police has included murder, attempt to murder and terrorism charges against the culprits.

The investigators inquiring into various aspects of the crime, police sources said.

According to preliminary investigations, the weapons used in the attack were also used earlier in various crimes.

The funeral prayers of seven martyred policemen were offered at their native towns Ghotki, Sanghar and Khoshab and they were laid to rest in local graveyards.

Earlier, funeral prayers of the deceased policemen were offered in Orangi Town which was attended by Chief Minister of Sindh, I.G. Police Sindh, home minister, Corps Commander Karachi and D.G. Rangers.

Seven policemen, deployed in the area for the security of polio vaccination teams, were murdered by the motorbike riding gunmen in two attacks on Wednesday.
