Owais Shah kidnapping: SC issues notices to secret agencies, others

KARACHI: Supreme Court of Pakistan (SC) on Friday issued notices to the Attorney General, Interior Secretary and secret agencies with regard to the kidnapping of Barrister Owais Shah, son of Sindh High Court (SHC) Chief Justice Sajjad Ali Shah.

A five-member larger bench led by Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali hearing the case. Other members of the bench are Justice Amir Hani Muslim, Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed, Justice Faisal Arab and Justice Khilji Arif Hussain.

The court issued notices to the Director General ISI, Director General IB and Director General FIA with the directives to submit their reports. The court also issued notices to the Attorney and the Secretary of Interior.

While hearing the Karachi unrest case, the bench asked the I.G. Sindh Police whether he was the police chief on paper only? The bench asked to improve the working of the police department.

The report on the kidnapping of Barrister Owais Shah was submitted in the court today. Chief Secretary informed the court that a committee has been constituted for departmental action against SSP (South) Mhammad Farooq with the orders to submit its recommendations by July 19.

The bench criticized the performance of the Sindh Police and ordered submission of the performance report of director parole. The court later adjourned the hearing till July 21st.
