Pakistan may face water shortage issue in next few years, warns Khawaja Asif

LAHORE: Federal Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Asif warned on Monday that country has been heading towards drought, ARY News reported.

Addressing a function in Lahore, the Minister said all plans for construction of water reservoirs were ruined due to politics.

Khawaja Asif asked nation to withdraw habit of wasting water.

He said previous governments didn’t take any measure to overcome the water shortage issue.

Meanwhile, Khawaja Asif vows to overcome electricity shortfall within upcoming three years.

Later talking to media, Khawaja Asif said that the government is preparing a comprehensive long- term plan to enhance water storage capacity.

He said government is considering to built several small and big water reservoirs after consensus with all stakeholders.

Talking about water dispute with India, Khawaja Asif said Pakistan wants to resolve water issues with India.

“We will contest our case at the appropriate forum if India encroached upon our water rights”, he added.
