Pakistan to continue cooperation against WMD proliferation

NEW YORK: Pakistan has vowed to continue cooperation with the international community for preventing proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction.

This was stated by Permanent Representative to the United Nations Maleeha Lodhi at consultations on the 2016 Comprehensive Review of the implementation of Security Council resolution 1540 in New York.

Lofhi said that Pakistan will continue cooperating with efforts to promote fair and equitable solutions to disarmament and nuclear non-proliferation challenges.

She said that Pakistan has made remarkable progress towards the implementation of the resolution. She outlined legislative, regulatory, administrative and organizational steps taken in this regard.

She said Pakistan has always fully supported the globally agreed objectives of promoting nuclear non-nuclear proliferation and disarmament.

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon called for intensification of efforts to prevent the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.
