Pakistan World Cup title chances are bleak: Zaheer Abbas

Under the circumstances coupled with Pakistan cricket team’s complacency in the field, chances for World Cup title seems low, believes former legendary batsman Zaheer Abbas said.

“I was of the point of view that Pakistan would beat New Zealand but I was wrong. The team showed complacency in the and threw their wickets on crucial points,” Zaheer said.

Zaheer said that Pakistan cricket team couldn’t be considered as favorites. “Other teams coming Down Under have strong players and therefore Pakistan couldn’t be considered among favorites for World Cup. But it doesn’t mean that Pakistan could be written off as they could defeat top sides in any condition on their day.”

Zaheer added that Pakistan cricket team has to do  a lot of work if they want to do something exceptional in Australia and New Zealand.

“Our team must come out of complacency and each and every player must take responsibility. Batsmen should play responsibly and just don’t throw their wicket when a match demands that they stay on wicket,” he said.

Zaheer added that the series against host New Zealand just before the World Cup would help Pakistan acclimatize to conditions Down Under before the big event begins.
