Surrounded by a large number of supporters showering flower petals on his car, Bilawal raised ‘Pakistan Khappay’ slogans and thanked the people for voting in local body polls and then the by-polls in the constituency, in favour of PPP.
Bilawal said the public support allowed the party to regain the seat once held by party’s slain leader Abdullah Murad.
Pakistan People’s Party candidate Ghulam Murtaza Baloch won the by-election on PS-127 earlier this month against the Waseem Ahmed of MQM.
PPP reclaimed the constituency after a break of 12 years, PPP’s last MPA from the constituency was Abdullah Murad.
On March 6, 2004, two gunmen riding on a motorcycle in Karachi ambushed the car of Abdullah Murad, killing the PPP lawmaker.
The seat recently fell vacant after MQM lawmaker Ashfaq Mangi resigned and joined Mustafa Kamal-led Pak Sarzameen Party.
The PS-127 constituency comprises city’s urban and rural areas which fall in the limits of district municipal corporations of Malir and Korangi. It includes Darsano Chhanno, Malir, Khokhrapar, Jaffer Tayyar Society, Brohi Goth, Sachhal Goth, Asu Goth, Memon Goth, Malir Cantonment and major swathes of Gadap Town.
