LAHORE: A local lawyer has filed a petition in Lahore High Court (LHC) seeking extension in the tenure of Army Chief General Raheel Sharif, ARY News reported.
The petition filed by Ghazi Ilmuddin Advocate wants extension in the tenure of the incumbent Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif, which will come to an end this month (November).
The petitioner pleaded to the court that Pakistan Army has played a key role to curb terrorism under the leadership of COAS General Raheel Sharif. He also mentioned that scores of hardened terrorists have been killed across the country in the anti-terrorism drive led by the incumbent army chief.
The petitioner said, “The nation wants General Raheel Sharif to remain the country’s army chief whereas the federal government also wants to extend his tenure therefore the court should give the orders to this effect.”
General Raheel Sharif was appointed for three years as the Army Chief on 27 Nov. 2013, replacing General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani, who was given a three-year extension by the then government of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP).
