PIA employees strike continues on second day

KARACHI: Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) employees continued their protest against probable privatization of the organization on the second day under the banner of a Joint Action Committee of the employees, ARY News reported.

The passengers facing hardships due to shutdown of the airlines offices and booking offices.

The employees had started their protest against looming privatization of the national carrier on Tuesday.

The airlines workers locked up the offices in Karachi, Lahore, Faisalabad and other cities yesterday, denying entry to the PIA chairman and other officers in the offices. The situation remains same today as the officers sitting at the airport and in hotels.

The employees have also threatened to suspend flight operations from February 2 if the government didn’t withdraw its decision to privatize the national airline.

Chairman PIA has said in a statement that the problems could not be resolved with strikes and protests and said that the employees protests will damage the PIA.

The PIA employees began their protest following the privatization bill was passed by the National Assembly couple of days ago despite opposition’s protest.

PIA booking officers across the country have been closed by the employees to register their protest.

The employees action committee has said that the protest will be continued till withdrawal of the government decision.
