Advocate Ishtiaq Chaudhary has filed a petition against the act and contended that it’s against fundamental rights and contrary to the Supreme Court orders.

He argued in his plea that the act would lead to chaos, which is against interest of the country.

The petitioner said several PIA employees would be sacked following enforcement of the Essential Services Act. He requested the court to declared the law as null and void.

The act envisages serious penalties for the protesting employees, including dismissal from service, imprisonment for a maximum period of one year and fine.
