PM chairs CCI meeting to discuss flood protection plan, census

ISLAMABAD: The meeting of the Council of Common Interests (CCI) has been underway in Islamabad with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in chair.

The CCI members including four provincial chief ministers and others attending the meeting.

The CCI meeting agenda also included the scheduling of the much delayed population census and devising the 10-yearly national flood protection plan.

According to official sources, the CCI members being given a detailed briefing on the National Flood Protection Plan-IV in the light of the feasibility studies undertaken in consultation with the provinces and other stakeholders.

A CCI meeting held in March 2015 had agreed to conduct the population census in March 2016 with the assistance of army to provide security to the census officials. The armed forces however expressed their inability to provide the necessary manpower due to their engagement in anti-terrorism operations throughout the country, which was the reason of delay in the census.
