PM Sharif announces compensation for quake-hit people

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has announced Rs 600,000 for heirs of each victim died in devastating quake in the country, ARY News reported.

The PM said Rs 100,000 will be given to the injured of the quake. He made this announcement during a media briefing at the Governor House in Peshawar.

He said the money will be disbursed among the victims by Thursday.

The PM said committees will be constituted to assess damages in the wake of earthquake.

Earlier, the PM arrived in the capital of Khyber Pakhtonkhwa where he was given a detailed briefing on the damages caused by the calamity and the ongoing relief measures.

Later, the Prime Minister will also visit Chitral to meet the quake affected people.

Chitral has also been badly affected by the quake with several buildings damaged and casualties soaring. Rescue and relief activities are underway in the mountainous region. Teams of Pakistan Army have also been carrying out rescue activities in the affected areas.

At least 270 people have died after quake in the country.
