PM stresses need to enhance country’s exports and revenues

He was chairing the meeting of heads of chambers of commerce, representatives of All Pakistan Textile Mills Association and exporter groups in Islamabad today.

Mr. Sharif said no country can make progress without enhancing its revenues besides we can only pay off our debts by increasing our resources.

Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Commerce Minister Khurram Dastgir Khan, Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Asif and other high ranking officials attended the meeting.

The Prime Minister regretted that the country’s exports have not witnessed any growth over the past few years while other economies in South Asia have surpassed us in this field. He urged the business community to give their valuable inputs to fix the problem of stagnant growth in exports. He said we also want to address the problems faced by the business community.

The Prime Minister said the government is also aware of the problems of agriculture sector caused by slump in prices of commodities in Pakistan and the international markets. He said we are paying attention to address the problems of farmers community.

Nawaz Sharif said resources are required to provide subsidies and compensation. Therefore, there is a need to explore new avenues of revenues in order to generate sufficient resources. He stressed that there should also be return from the sector getting subsidies.

The members of the delegation gave suggestions for bringing competitiveness in the products in order to enhance the exports. The meeting also discussed issues relating to taxes and energy crisis.
