PM Nawaz announces number of schemes for Gilgit-Baltistan

Addressing the public gathering in Gilgit today, PM Nawaz said Diamer Basha dam will be built in Gilgit Baltistan in order to bring prosperity in the lives of the people of the area.

“The Diamer Basha Dam will be country’s biggest project which will change the destiny of Gilgit Baltistan”, added PM Nawaz.

“This project costing Rs.1400 billion will add 4500 megawatt of electricity to the national grid”, he said.

The Prime Minister said the work will also be started on Bunji and Dasu dams.

Nawaz Sharif also announced that the youth of Gilgit-Baltistan will be given loans worth Rs.two million to start their own small businesses.

He said that 175 kilometers long Gilgit-Jaglot road will be constructed at a cost of Rs. 40 billion.

He also informed that a tunnel is being constructed at Atta Abad lake at a cost of Rs. 27 billion which will ensure access to Khunjrab.

He said that a road has been carpeted between Khunjrab to Rai Kot which will be expanded to Tha Kot and then Islamabad.

Announcing several other schemes for Gilgit-Baltistan, Nawaz Sharif said the laptop scheme will also be initiated and a university will be constructed in Baltistan.

PM Nawaz said that Pakistan-China economic corridor project envisages construction of road from Khunjrab to Gwadar besides rail service will also be started.

The premier said that he has also constituted a committee on the constitutional status of Gilgit-Baltistan region.
