PM Sharif says back independent media, freedom of expression

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday pinned hope that load-shedding in the country would be eliminated by 2018 because its situation has already improved.

Speaking during the National Trade Enhancement Ceremony in the federal capital, he reiterated that provision of cheap power in the country was the aim of his government.

“Bhasha dam was a historical decision and soon it will be the biggest dam in Pakistan,” said the prime minister and added, “The dam will ensure a supply of 4,500MW once completed.”

The premier said, “I believe, no industry in the country is currently suffering due to load-shedding.”

Turning attention towards media, PM Sharif said that he believed in the freedom of media and freedom of speech.

Prime Minister Sharif insisted that he never thought about doing anything against the media of the country, but felt bad when some people on television try to effect unity of among the people of Pakistan.

“People must avoid doing propaganda on TV,” urged the prime minister during his address.
