Polling underway in Mirpurkhas by-election

Pakistan People’s Party’s (PPP) Noor Ahmad Bhurgari and Pakistan Muslim League-Functional’s (PML-F) Faqeer Ghulam Qadir Mangriyo are frontrunners in the field of 10 candidates.

The polling for the by-election will continue till 5:00PM without any break.

The seat had fallen vacant due to the death of PPP MPA, Jameel Bhurgari, who had won the seat in May 2013 general elections by defeating Mir Janullah Khan Talpur of the PML-F.

Police and Rangers have been deployed in the constituency to maintain law and order during the polling in the tense contest.

According to the Election Commission of Pakistan, 174 polling stations have been set up in PS-67, which has total 1,37,171 registered voters. The commission has declared 20 polling stations of the constituency ‘very sensitive’.
