Former prime minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf has filed a petition in the apex court through Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan pleading that holding the Cantonment elections on non-party basis is violation of the constitution.

The petitioner has also sought a stay order against the elections scheduled to be held on April 25th.

The Election Commission of Pakistan has announced the election schedul for the local bodies elections in 42 Cantonments across the country.

According to the election schedule the nomination papers for the cantonment elections will be received from March 29 to 31st. The scrutiny of the nominations will be held from April 2nd to 4th.

The contestants will be granted election symbols in the final list of the candidates to be displayed on April 11.

The polling for cantonment elections will be held on 25 April and the final results will be announced on 28 April.
