President Mamnoon in his message said that Sharmeen has highlighted the name of Pakistan by raising a human issue. He said Pakistan is determined to protect the rights of women.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in his message lauded the efforts of Sharmeen and said that there is no room in Islam for killing in the name of honour. The premier also said that his government with a peace of legislation in the parliament will stop such brutal and inhuman acts. He called Chinoy as pride of the nation.
Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid and Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif have also congratulated Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy and expressed the hope that she would continue her good work in the days to come.
Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Syed Tariq Fatemi has also congratulated Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy for winning the Academy Award for her documentary “A Girl in the River – The Price of Forgiveness”.
In a message, he said that it was a matter of pride for the nation that a daughter of Pakistan had yet again, achieved this distinction, which was a source of inspiration for all Pakistani women. He appreciated the invaluable contribution made by Ms Chinoy for promoting the concept of rights of women in Pakistan through her art, by drawing attention to socially challenging issues.
