Looming privatization: Protesting PIA workers issue ultimatum to govt

KARACHI: Hundreds of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) employees under the banner of Joint Action Committee have resorted to ‘work-to-rule’ tactic in protest against looming privatization of the national carrier, ARY News reported.

Workers locked up the offices and threatened to suspend flight operations from February 2 if the government didn’t withdraw its decision to privatize the national airline.

The PIA employees began their protest following the privatization bill was passed by the National Assembly couple of days ago despite opposition’s protest.

PIA spokesperson said the workers were appealed to resume working on booking offices so visitors and passengers could be facilitated.

PIA booking officers across the country have been closed by the employees to register their protest, however those offices located at the airport are still opened.
