Priyanka Chopra, Freida Pinto join hands for 'Girl Rising India' campaign

Both actresses have come together for the betterment of girls in their country. Former Miss World Priyanka Chopra and Slumdog Millionaire star Freida Pinto joined forces to alleviate Indian girls poor conditions in a bid to educate and enlighten women in India.

In India, the main focus of the campaign would be to battle gender discrimination and promote education post grade 10 among girls. The campaign would include film narrated by Priyanka, Freida and several other undisclosed Bollywood names. Speaking on the occasion, Freida deemed it the appropriate time to challenge the lack of female education and asking the right questions from society. “The time has come where instead of questioning why we should educate girls, we should be asking why not. When we know that educating a girl can change the world, why wait? With Girl Rising we will change that,” she said.

Priyanka, who has been working with the organization since day one, also gushed at the opportunity of bringing the noble initiative to India. “I’ve been a part of the Girl Rising campaign since inception and am honoured to be able to bring this powerful idea to India. If more girls are educated, all of India stands to gain,” said Priyanka.

Freida rose to prominence when she starred in Slumdog Millionaire as the leading lady. The film went on to become one of the most celebrated movies of all time winning a multitude of Academy Awards. The Danny Boyle film helped established Freida as a globally recognized actress. Priyanka Chopra has held numerous awards and accolades during her vast stint in Bollywood. She has garnered an impressive number of awards as well. Priyanka’s talents are not only restricted to the film industry alone as she is a globally admired celebrity on account of her songs ‘Exotic’ and ‘In My City’.

It is refreshing to see Bollywood superstars eluding their wealthy lifestyle to focus more on social issues at hand. Nothing like a bunch of celebrities joining hands to build a better world!
