Almost a year-old case was filed by one of the PTI founding members and party’s former information secretary Akbar S. Babar against alleged corruption and violation of laws in the collection of donations and managing PTI funds.
Speaking to media officials after the case hearing, Babar urged the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to come forward and investigate the possible links between PTI and the alleged corruption charges levelled by the former party member.
“ECP has sought a complete details of PTI’s international funding in the next hearing,” Babar said, adding that the commission has also assured it would not allow more delay in the case.
Giving details of the hearing, the former PTI office-bearer said the Chief Election Commissioner has blamed PTI high-ups for trying varying delaying tactics for the last nine months in the case.
“Election Commission of Pakistan is an autonomous body and can investigate over financial assets of any political party.”
Alleging that the Islamabad High Court (IHC) was too indulgent with the PTI, Babar said in spite of providing details regarding sources of its funding; PTI has taken a refuge behind a high court stay order.
He also reiterated to raise the ‘Foreign Funding Case’ against PTI in front of the interior ministry once again.
The Election Commission of Pakistan has adjourned hearing of the case till July 18.
