Addressing a joint press conference with Yousuf Raza Gillani who had arrived to condole over the demise of his sister, Makhdoom Javed Hashmi said that the name of the Army Chief must not be dragged into politics. He said that he was part of the government-PTI talks and Ishaq Dar had agreed upon ‘conditional resignation’ by the Prime Minister, Nawaz Sharif.

He also said that he had supported the demand of mid-term elections for it was constitutional.

Hashmi said that the courts should also aid democracy in their verdicts.

The former PTI leader said that people should cooperate with Imran Khan under the current circumstances, adding, “Khan cannot be forced out of the domestic politics”.

On this occasion, ex-PM Yousuf Raza Gillani said that if the PTI protest movement carried violence with it after November, then it will not be accepted at all. He added that a military operation is no permanent solution to extremism in the state.

Moreover, Gillani suggested next elections should not be conducted unless reforms are introduced in the electoral system of the country.
