LAHORE: Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif has ordered audit of all public hospitals across the province after reports of scam involving widespread use of unregistered cardiac stents.

His decision came after the investigation submitted him report a day ago about the scam.

It was revealed in the inquiry report that hospitals were using unregistered stents putting lives of patients at risk. The report identified institutes of cardiology in Multan and Faisalabad to be following the standard procedure in treating patients.

Regretting the sale of unregistered stents at public hospitals, Chief Minister blamed the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan and other healthcare departments for the menace.

“The government has spent billions on improving the healthcare system and to ensure people benefit from every rupee spent.

A comprehensive monitoring system should be devised according to the requirements,” he reportedly said to officials. The chief minister insisted his team would destroy the monopoly of unregistered stent providers.
