Punjab to penalize motorists with unauthorized number plates
Punjab governor has issued an Ordinance here Wednesday in which the government has made an amendment in Motor Vehicles Ordinance 1965 for mandatory display of security featured number plates on motor vehicles and to penalize counterfeiting or unauthorized preparation of the number plates of motor vehicles.
It is made mandatory upon the owner to display the number plate on the vehicle issued by the prescribed or registered authority. The owner who is found with fabricated or counterfeited number plate or a screw provided by registering or prescribed authority, he shall be punished with imprisonment for two years or fine or both.
The Ordinance further claims that if a person who is not authorized by the government prepares or manufactures a number plate or a screw shall be punished with imprisonment for one year with fine or both.
