Punjab to procure 4m tonne wheat with federal consent

LAHORE: Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif on Monday said his government will procure four million tonnes of wheat at a cost of Rs130 billion this year, after the federal government has given green signal for wheat procurement, ARY News reported.

He said this while inaugurating wheat-harvesting campaign in Bahwalpur.

The Punjab government has set up 377 procurement centres across the province as wheat procurement started at all centres on Monday.

Shahbaz Sharif had last month announced Rs 100 bn package for Punjab with regard to agricultural development programs and subsidies.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had in Sept, 2015, announced a relief package of over Rs340bn for the farmers across Pakistan.

He had said package envisaged direct cash assistance to the farmers, relief in prices of agriculture inputs, provision of agriculture loans and simplifying the procedure of loans.
