Qureshi calls on govt to end GST on agriculture

LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) leader, Shah Mehmood Qureshi Monday demanded the government to end General Sales Tax (GST) on agriculture in order to provide relief to farmers, or else his party will oppose the budget, ARY News reported.

Addressing a sit-in staged by farmers at Charing Cross here, Qureshi said that his party can’t left them dying. He lamented that the peasants are being arrested for demanding their rights.

“More than 60 male and female peasants have been rounded up in Okara,” he claimed, calling for immediate release of them.

The PTI lawmaker demanded for clearing power arrears on all agricultural tube wells and to fix the power tariff Rs 5 per unit.

He urged the government not to harm interests of farmers in the country in Pakistan-India agricultural trade.
