Muhammad Rafique Rajwana, a Senator and party stalwart from southern Punjab, reached Prime Minister House in Islamabad this morning.
Prime Minister Sharif informed Mr. Rajwana about his decision of nominating him as the new governor of Pakistan’s largest province.
Rafique Rajwana assured the prime minister that he will meet the expectations of the party leadership as Governor of Punjab.
Prime Minister’s political secretary Asif Kirmani was also present during the meeting.
Former governor Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar had resign from the office on 29 January, 2015 and announced to join Imran Khan led Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI).
Sarwar, a Pakistani expat and former member of the British Parliament, had announced to quit the office saying he was not being allowed to exercise his powers and perform his duty as the constitutional head of the province.
