Continuing downpour threatens to avert India-Pakistan clash

According to details, the downpour continued at Kolkata due to which the pitch was kept under covers. Floodlights were also turned on as the atmosphere turned cloudy.

If the rain continued, it could also result in the match not being played at all. In that scenario, both arch rivals would be awarded one point each.

In case the match is played after much delay, some overs will be reduced from the match between both sides.

The match between the two arch rivals being played at iconic Eden Gardens of Kolkata.

The media reports that it has been raining in Kolkata since morning with the match scheduled to start at the Eden Gardens at 7:30 PM (7:00 PM PST).

The match starts at 7.30 pm, fans hoping that the much awaited clash is not marred by the rainfall as moderate rain has also been forecast for the evening. The Kolkata MET department has predicted rain and thundershowers in the evening. The groundsmen are not taking any chances ahead of this high-profile clash and have covered the entire ground.

Eden Gardens Kolkata, the largest Indian cricket stadium and the second largest in the world after the Melbourne Cricket Ground, has been a happy hunting ground for the Pakistani cricketers who have won all their previous ODIs at this ground.

The match was shifted to Kolkata from Dharamsala due to security reasons. If the match had remained in Dharamsala, there was strong chance of it getting washed out. The reason being, the mountain town was hit by a strong hailstorm accompanied by heavy rain in the morning.
