Rajnikanth’s Kabali beats Sultan at Box Office?

NEW DELHI: Superstar Rajinikanth’s Kabali has grossed over Rs 40 crore at the Indian box office, beating Salman Khan starrer Bollywood drama Sultan to emerge as the highest grossing Indian film on the opening day, according to estimates by trade pundits.

“By early estimates, #Kabali has crossed ₹ 200 Cr gross @ WW BO for the Opening wknd India – ₹ 123 Cr Overseas – ₹ 87 Cr Total – ₹ 210 Crs. [sic],” trade tracker Andhra Box Office tweeted.

Other trade trackers also confirmed the mammoth numbers, “By early estimates, #Kabali has crossed ₹ 200 Cr gross @ WW BO for the Opening wknd India – ₹ 123 Cr Overseas – ₹ 87 Cr Total – ₹ 210 Crs. [sic],” trade änalyst Ramesh wrote.

The Indian Express reported that one of the leading producer-distributor said, “Salman’s Sultan minted Rs 36.5 crore from the domestic box office as opposed to Rs 48 crore of Kabali.

Despite mixed reviews, Kabali managed to stir public interest because it was released in three languages.”

The film is performing well in north India as well. As per Adarsh, the film has grossed about Rs 11.40 crore net, including Hindi, Tamil and Telugu versions, in two days. On Friday, it garnered Rs 5.20 cr., while on Saturday it showed a 19.23% growth with a collection of Rs 6.20 crore.
