Rangers arrest MQM’s former sector incharge in Karachi

KARACHI: Pakistan Rangers Sindh on Saturday claimed to have arrested an alleged target killer of the Mutahida Quami Movement.

Ishtiaq alias Mama was arrested by the paramilitary who conducted a raid in PIB Colony Gulshan-e-Iqbal after receiving a tip-off.

He was a member and unit in-charge of the MQM and is alleged to have been involved in a range of offences and other heinous crimes on the instruction of senior leaders of the party.

The Rangers statement listed details of his crimes, which includes killing of Baloch youth between 1993 and 2007, and killing three members of the MQM-Haqqiqi between 1995-96.

Ishtiaq is alleged to be responsible for the murder of Moosa of the Lyari gangwar in 2008-09, and firing on the office of a private news television on 12 May, 2007.

He is also held responsible for forcibly closing shops and markets by intimidation and and harassment between 1987 to 2006, extortion and forcibly collecting hides and skins and fitrana charities.

Rangers also recovered arms and ammunition from his possession including one Small Machine Gun (SMG), rifle, 30-bore pistol, three IEDs and several types of ammunition.

He has been handed over to Police for further investigation.
