Rangers arrest Rabita Committee member in midnight raid, MQM says

KARACHI: The law enforcement agencies in a midnight raid in Karachi’s North Nazimabad arrested Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Rabita Committee member Kamal Malik, the party said in a statement on Thursday.

The MQM said a heavy contingent of Rangers conducted a raid at the house of Malik in Block ‘F’ of North Nazimabad in the night between Wednesday and Thursday around 2:30am.

The Rangers officials scaled the walls of the house and arrested him. No reason for the arrest has been given,” the MQM said. In thorough search of Malik’s house, they seized his academic records and certificates. They have transferred the arrested MQM leader to an undisclosed place, the party statement said. Kamal Malik, a former Nazim of Gulbarg Town, is believed to be “seriously ill” and had undergone a liver transplant two years ago, the party said.

The MQM called for the release of the arrested party leader and said that his minor son and daughter are anxious about the well being of their ailing father.
