Rangers arrest six hitmen in Karachi crackdown
The Rangers personnel in law and order operations in Ranchhore Lane, Baldia and Kharadar areas of the metropolis arrested eight accused including four target killers and three extortionists, a spokesman of the Rangers said.
Arrested accused are affiliated with a political party, spokesman said. An accused among the arrested men was involved in supplying arms to the criminals.
Paramilitary personnel captured large quantity of arms from the possession of the arrested men, spokesman said.
Rangers personnel also arrested two target killers in a raid in Orangi Town. The arrested hitmen are members of an outlawed group, spokesman added.
The operation against criminals of various hues in Karachi, Pakistan’s commercial hub, was initiated in September 2013 after the federal cabinet empowered paramilitary Rangers to lead a targeted crackdown with the support of police against criminals, for their alleged involvement in targeted killings, kidnappings for ransom, extortion and terrorism in the city.
