Rangers hand over Nisar Morai to Police after remand ends

Rangers officials have handed over Nisar Morai to Defence area police, sources said.

According to sources, Nisar Morai facing charges of involvement in murder of a former chairman Steel Mills, Sajjad Shah.

Sajjad Shah was killed in Defence area of Karachi in 1998.

An anti-terrorism court (ATC) had granted 90 days remand of Nisar Morai to Rangers on March 16 this year for corruption and other charges against him.

Morai also faces charges of arms smuggling. He has disclosed the names of some important persons during the questioning, investigation sources said.

Earlier, Nisar Morai had confessed to have smuggled currency through launches at the behest of political figures. The suspect is also said to be involved in multiple incidents of target killing and terrorism.

The ATC had ordered officials to present a joint investigation team (JIT) report against Nisar Jan Memon alias Nisar Morai in 15 days.

On March 10, law enforcers took Morai into custody as he reached Islamabad airport from abroad. He is charged with funding gang war members in Karachi, large-scale embezzlement in public funds and other serious crimes.
