Rangers want biometric system in place for NA-246 by-polls

KARACHI: Pakistan Rangers (Sindh) on Tuesday wrote a letter to the Election Commission of Pakistan demanding installation of biometric system for by-election in National Assembly constituency (NA-246) Karachi, ARY News reported.

The by-election in NA-246, which has a become a test for contesting political parties, there the law enforcement agencies (LEAs) are also busy devising a strategy to ensure peaceful conduct of polls.

Sources told that the Sindh Rangers wrote a letter to the ECP demanding it to hold the by-election under biometric system.

The paramilitary force in its letter also demanded for the installation of CCTV cameras at all sensitive buildings in the constituency.

The by-election in the constituency is due on April 23, for which Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf, Muttahida Qaumi Movement and Jamaat e Islami are quite active among others.

The constituency is a traditional stronghold of MQM and it has stood victorious from there six times.
