Raza Rabbani sworn in as Senate chairman

ISLAMABAD: Mian Raza Rabbani, who was elected unopposed as Senate chairman earlier today, has taken oath of the chair, ARY News reported.

Presiding officer of the special session of the Senate Ishaq Dar administered oath to Mr. Rabbani.

Rabbani vowed to uphold supremacy of the parliament. I will also try to meet up to the expectation of people, he added.

He congratulated all newly-elected Senators to the Upper House. Rabbani, who belongs to Pakistan People’s Party, was nominated unanimously by the government and the opposition for the office.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has felicitated Mian Raza Rabbani over his unopposed election as the Chairman Senate.

Forty-seven newly elected Senators took oath at the Senate in Islamabad on Thursday.  Senator Ishaq Dar, who was nominated by the President as presiding officer, administered the oath.
