The ‘reincarnation’ of camera legend – Kodak unveils smartphone for photographers

This could be the rebirth of the legendary camera company: Kodak has unveiled the KODAK EKTRA – Android-based smartphone which is designed for those with a passion for photography.

Kodak Ektra has infused its rich history of imaging with the latest innovations in smartphone photography, and is designed to help enthusiastic photographers from amateurs to experts capture exceptional images in different environments with an incredibly fast smartphone.

Kodak Chief Executive Jeff Clarke said that the original Kodak Ektra camera was launched in 1941, and in its latest reincarnation, opened up a world of creative opportunities to all who care about photography.

The smartphone has a 21-megapixel fast focus camera sensor with f2.0 aperture, and an industry leading 13-megapixel front-facing camera with Phase Detection Auto Focus PDAF and f2.2 aperture. This is way above than any other smartphones currently available.

It has a custom built camera app controlled by an intuitive touch where adjustments are made in real time via a range of settings including HDR, Landscape, Portrait, Macro, Sport, Night-time, Panorama and Bokeh.

It has a smart auto mode which auto-selects the best conditions for your photographs. The manual mode for more advanced users can adjust exposure, ISO, focus, white balance and shutter speed, with the results being visible on the screen as changes are made.

The Kodak Ektra smartphone has a high quality industrial design and weight, which is reminiscent of point-and-shoot cameras and featuring a dedicated dual press shutter button.

Other features include a Super 8 app, a lightning-fast Helio X20 Decacore processor which powers the Android Marshmallow smartphone.

It includes editing software from Snapseed providing exceptional tools to edit images on-the-go without having to download any additional apps. This enables users to transform images with professional results similar to many popular desktop image editors.

It also allows to share the results in real time with easy integrated social media apps, and the prints app is a simple way to select your best shots be professionally printed.

The phone is being produced by the UK-company Bullitt Group which is licensing the Kodak brand name for the product.

Kodak Ektra will be initially launched in the UK and will be available across Europe later this year for £449 ( approx $550). There is no word when the phone will be released in the United States.
