Saarc interior secretaries reaffirm commitment ahead of ministerial meeting

They discussed a range of issues affecting the region including terrorism, narcotics, and smuggling and immigration. They also discussed various ways to enhance bilateral relations and cooperation through the sharing of knowledge, experiences and expertise. The finalised recommendations will be presented in the meeting tomorrow.

The meeting was chaired by Interior Secretary Arif Ali Khan who said that SAARC was an excellent platform to solve the joint problems facing the region. He hailed the recommendations presented and said that member countries would strongly benefit from it.

Interior ministries of member countries including Rajnath Singh of Indian have arrived in the federal capital. The interior minister of Bangladesh is not present but is represented by senior officials and diplomats.

However, he is not expected to meet his counterpart Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan. This was confirmed by a statement by Indian Ministry of External Affairs. Chaudhry Nisar had also said that he was not keen on meeting with the Singh due to his controversial remarks over the conditions in Indian-Occupied Kashmir.
