Sahiwal Coal Power Plant connected to national power grid

ISLAMABAD: Water and Power Minister Khawaja Asif has tweeted that Sahiwal Power Plant has been connected to national electricity grid after its completion.

Federal Minister in a Tweet said that the power plant, after its successful testing, will generate 1320 megawatt power from this June.

According to reports, the first freight train carrying imported coal has reached to the coal terminal built at the Sahiwal coal power plant from Karachi.

Another train with coal will reach the power plant on Tuesday, said a spokesman of Pakistan Railways.

Sahiwal power plant, completed with with $1.8 billion cost, has two units of 660MW each and would be first power plant of the country to be run on imported coal.

The government, later, imposed a ban on plants run on imported coal and stressed upon the need to use indigenous coal from Thar.
