SC constitutes bench to hear Karsaz bomb attack case

ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court of Pakistan (SC) has constituted a bench to hear the Karsaz bomb attack on the welcome procession of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto in Karachi in October 2007, ARY News reported on Saturday.

The court has sent notices to the federal and Sindh governments regarding the constitution of the bench. The first hearing of the case will take place on 8th February.

Over 150 people were killed in twin blasts at Karachi’s Karsaz area upon the arrival of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto in Pakistan.

Former chief justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry had taken suo-moto notice of the incident on 30th October 2007 whereas the first hearing of the case was held on 1st November that year.

The proceedings of the Karsaz bomb attack case was going at a slow pace. However, two suspects were imprisoned for 19 years and fine of Rs. 20,000 each.
