Security concerns: Wasim, Shoaib to leave India ahead of Mumbai ODI

NEW DELHI/KARACHI: Pakistani cricketing legends Wasim Akhtar and Shoaib Akhtar will leave India ahead of fifth ODI in Mumbai between India and South Africa due to looming security concerns, Indian media reported Monday.

The duo is in India as part of Star Sports’ commentary team for the India-South Africa series, however they will leave for home on October 23 after commentating on the fourth ODI in Chennai.

The decision was made following Monday’s incident when a group of hard-lined Shiv Sena activists barged into Board of Cricket Control India (BCCI) office in Mumbai and forced cancel the meeting with Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) officials.

Earlier in the day, ICC called back Pakistani umpire Aleem Dar was also pulled back from umpiring during India-South Africa ODIs due to same reason.

Of late, hardliners have disrupted several events concerning Pakistani nationals in India offering zero tolerance to visiting neighbors.
