Security in action after IED found near Wagah border

LAHORE: An improvised explosives device (IED) was found from parking area of the Wagah border on Monday, prompting law enforcers into action, ARY News reported.

The Bomb Disposal Squad was called to the site and it successfully defused the IED. The BDS also carried out search operation on spots surrounding Wagah border.

Security forces also galvanized into action and began search operation in nearby villages and areas and rounded up several suspects.

A suicide bomber killed at least 59 people on Sunday at the main Pakistan-India border crossing – Wagah Border – the blast tearing through crowds of spectators leaving after the colourful daily ceremony to close the frontier.

The explosion, which wounded more than 120, came at Wagah border gate near Lahore after the “flag-lowering” ceremony, a display of military pageantry that attracts thousands of spectators every day and is popular with foreign tourists.
